GEORGE TOWN: A 28-year-old man, believed to be suffering from mental health issues, has been remanded for seven days after throwing a three-year-old child and a 40-day-old baby off a first-floor balcony. The incident occurred at an apartment in George Town at around 3.30pm on Wednesday (Aug 2).
The suspect, who was not clothed and had a self-inflicted injury on his left wrist, is now being investigated for attempted murder. The George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong stated that the suspect’s family members have reported his mental health issues over the past month.
Following the incident, the suspect was taken to the hospital by an individual and subsequently arrested. He has a prior record for drugs and is currently being remanded at the Penang Hospital for treatment.
According to ACP Soffian, the three-year-old child suffered a broken left leg and injuries to the mouth due to the fall. The 40-day-old baby has bleeding in the brain. Both victims are in stable condition and receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital. ACP Soffian urges anyone with information about the case to come forward.
The suspect will remain in custody until August 9 and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
