KUALA LUMPUR: Social media personality Jane Teoh has launched the #DareToShout anti-cyberbullying campaign to raise awareness about online misconduct in the community.
The 27-year-old, who was Miss Universe Malaysia 2018, said she took the initiative as she is also an influencer and wants to encourage proper use of the Internet.
“I raised this issue (of cyberbullying) when I participated in the pageant. This campaign allows me to continue the initiative.
“It is an issue that is also relevant to students today since social media is part of our lifestyle and they need to know their responsibilities as users,” she told reporters after speaking on cyberbullying, youth and women’s empowerment to more than 200 students of SM Stella Maris here on Wednesday (July 24).
She said the campaign will be held in schools and universities and welcomed any individual or group keen to make it a success.
According to Teoh, she will also get other social media influencers to promote the campaign.
“I have invited a few and plan to involve more such as TikTokers and YouTubers who are popular among children,” she said.

She added that programmes should be held for students to expose them to online misconduct and suggested that it be included in the school syllabus.
On Friday (July 19), the Cabinet agreed to establish a special committee to deal with the issue of cyberbullying in the country.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police to take strict action against those involved in cyberbullying.
The issue came into the public eye recently following the July 5 death of influencer and Hindu rights activist A. Rajeswary, better known as Esha, who had experienced cyberbullying. – Bernama
