KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has encouraged residents to inform the police if they plan on leaving their homes for the holidays, even if they do not celebrate Hari Raya. This is so patrols can be sent to monitor their housing areas during their absence.

He emphasized the importance of informing the nearest police station or using the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app to notify authorities about empty homes. This precaution is applicable not only to those celebrating Aidilfitri, but also to non-Muslims.

During a visit to the Police Training Centre, he stressed the need for homeowners to communicate their absence to law enforcement for added security measures. He also mentioned that the latest iteration of Ops Selamat focuses on minimizing accidents and ensuring smooth traffic flow.

Operations during the campaign will prioritize education on good driving behaviors, with approximately 5,000 policemen deployed for Ops Selamat. The IGP highlighted the importance of total enforcement and service delivery to enhance road safety.

Regarding the recent video showcasing illegal u-turns at the Raub bypass on Central Spine Road due to congestion, the police are aware of the traffic issues in the area. Measures to monitor hotspots and blackspots are in place, with considerations to close problematic sections to alleviate traffic jams.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) deputy director Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar has been appointed as the acting director of the department. This follows the conclusion of Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri’s 38 years of service as the JSPT director.
