KUANTAN: A preliminary investigation has revealed that underground water seepage was the cause of a failed fill slope, resulting in cracks on the westbound East Coast Expressway Phase 1 in Temerloh. The crack occurred between kilometre (KM) 118.2 and KM 117.8. Anih Berhad, the expressway operator, stated that they, along with consultants, are conducting a detailed study to determine the actual cause of the incident.
The company has stated that there is currently no new movement reported in the area where the incident occurred. However, settlement markers have been placed by the company and the contractor to continue monitoring the situation. A comprehensive site investigation will be completed, and a recommended remedial measure will be determined by the consulting engineer before repair work is conducted by the contractor.
In a statement given on Monday (Sept 11), Anih Berhad advised motorists to plan their journeys and follow the instructions provided by staff at the location of the incident. The expressway operator had previously confirmed the incident, which led to the activation of a contra-lane from KM 116.5 to KM 119.4 starting at 4.15pm on Sunday (Sept 10).
The cracks were believed to have occurred on the same day, but no further incidents were recorded as a result of the cracks. – Bernama
