Preliminary investigations into the case of a foreign worker who was killed in a mishap at a quarry in Keramat Pulai on Tuesday (Sept 5) have found that the employer was not negligent, according to Perak human resources, health, Indian community affairs and national integration committee chairman A. Sivanesan. He stated that reports indicated signs of movement of small rocks when the victim returned to retrieve his belongings from the excavator he was operating. The full investigation report from the Perak Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) is expected to be available within a month.
On Tuesday, a Pakistani national named Sohail Sajjad, 36, was pinned under the excavator and his remains were recovered later. It was revealed that this incident marked the ninth fatal case of a quarry worker in the state since 2017.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad announced on Thursday (Sept 7) that a special committee would soon be formed to reassess the safety aspects of quarry works in the state. This committee will specifically investigate safety issues and the risk of landslides.

The Pakistani worker, Sohail Sajjad, 36, was found trapped under the excavator on Tuesday and his body was recovered later. A total of nine cases of fatal accidents involving quarry workers have been reported in the state since 2017.
