The Transport Ministry, through the Road Transport Department (JPJ), has launched an initiative under Belanjawan Madani 2023 dubbed the MyPSV Programme which aims to help B40 groups in getting their public service vehicle licence. Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari officiated at the launch of MyPSV on July 3 this year in Batang Kali, Selangor. The national programme is an initiative by the government to benefit 4,000 candidates – 3,500 people for ehailing and taxi licences, and 500 people for bus driving licences – from the B40 bracket across the country. The ministry had allocated RM2mil under Budget 2023 to cover the cost of testing and training of candidates. “The fee for each candidate taking the ehailing or taxi PSV licence is RM190 while those taking the vocational bus licence have to pay RM2,590 for their theory and practical exams,” said Loke at the launch. This programme is a testament to the government’s commitment in assisting B40 groups to raise their socioeconomic status and household income through job opportunities in the gig economy. According to the Transport Ministry, this will also help improve the state of the public transport and tourism sectors in the country. In this programme, JPJ will coordinate a list of beneficiaries with the appointed driving institutes and ehailing operators, with collaboration from bus operators associations as well as relevant agencies. The eligibility requirements for candidates to obtain public service vehicle vocational licences under the MyPSV Programme include: > Malaysian citizenship > Age 21 and above > Pass the health examination (JPJL8A) > Free from blacklisting (JPJ, PDRM, or court) > Applicants for PSV vocational licence (ehailing or taxi) must have a Class D driver’s licence > Applicants for a PSV vocational licence (bus) with BTM exceeding 7,500kg must have a Class D (at least one year) or a Class E driver’s licence. Candidates for the MyPSV bus programme are required to attend vocational theory courses, training and practical tests covering circuits and roads, equivalent to the existing regulations. Candidates for the MyPSV ehailing programme only need to attend the ehailing theory course. With this initiative, the government wants to help the B40 group who face economic challenges to obtain a public service vehicle vocational licences while producing competent, safe and professional drivers, and to meet the needs of drivers in the public transport sector.To apply for MyPSV, go to https://belanjawan.mof.gov.my/manfaat/faq/mypsv.html.
