According to the Prime Minister, the country’s two primary revenue collectors had a successful year in 2022, contributing to the strengthening of the government’s finances. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also the Finance Minister, stated that the Inland Revenue Board collected RM823 billion, while the Customs Department collected RM55 billion.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the hard work of the Customs Department, as their collection exceeded the target. In 2022, the department collected RM53.54 billion for the country, surpassing its collection goal.
The Inland Revenue Board also exceeded its collection target by RM7 billion, surpassing the earlier reports of its RM176 billion tax collection target for last year.
Anwar also directed government-link companies and government-link investment companies to decrease their foreign investment portfolios and focus more on domestic investments. It was discussed whether it should be 20% or 25% of their total investment portfolio.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of all parties contributing to boosting domestic investment.
