The Doulos Hope ship is scheduled to arrive in Kota Kinabalu and will be open to the public from Saturday (Sept 9) until Oct 3.
Previously docked in Penang from July 31 to Aug 27, the international floating book fair is currently en route to Kota Kinabalu.
When it arrives, it will dock at the South Jetty of Kota Kinabalu Port and will be open from Tuesday through Sunday evenings from 4pm to 9pm. The ship is closed on Mondays.
Many people may recall the visit of the sister ship, Logos Hope, in November 2011. Those who visit Doulos Hope will have access to a wide selection of over 2,000 book titles at affordable prices.
These books cover various subjects including science, medicine, arts, languages, faith, hobbies, cooking, and sports. The collection also includes children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, and atlases, according to the event organizers.
For more information, including details about entry tickets, the public can visit the Instagram page douloshope_malaysia2023.
Doulos Hope is a vessel operated by the Germany-based non-profit organization GBA Ship. The organization’s ships make port calls for several weeks in different countries around the world.
The ships have an international crew from various countries who live and work onboard. Their mission is to promote literacy and education, cross-cultural cooperation, and social awareness. They often collaborate with local community groups for various programs.
After the Kota Kinabalu leg, Doulos Hope is expected to continue its journey to Bangkok, Thailand, as mentioned on their website.
