KUANTAN: Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has called for an investigation into the alleged leak of an internal memo from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC). Wan Rosdy, who is the Umno vice-president, emphasized the importance of the investigation due to its connection with the six charges against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

According to the leaked memo, the prosecution team recommended to then-attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas that the six charges did not meet the minimum requirements for a prima facie case of criminal breach of trust (CBT). Wan Rosdy stated that the investigation must be carried out promptly to prevent damage to the credibility and image of the country’s legal and judicial system and to maintain the confidence of various parties.

Wan Rosdy also highlighted that the investigation’s outcome would directly impact Najib’s ongoing trial. He stressed the importance of serious attention from the Attorney General to uphold the rule of law and ensure the trustworthiness of the legal system.

Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun confirmed on August 17 that the AGC was investigating the alleged leak of the memo.

The leaked memo discussed concerns from the IPIC (International Petroleum Investment Company) case prosecution team, who believed that a strong prima facie case could not be established for the six charges. These charges were brought against Najib and Irwan at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on October 25, 2018. Both individuals were jointly charged with six counts under Section 409 of the Penal Code, involving RM6.6 billion in government funds related to payments to IPIC.
