JOHOR BARU: Investigation over the fire incident at SiLC industrial park in Iskandar Puteri, which left two foreign workers dead, is still ongoing, says the Johor Fire and Rescue Department.

Director Siti Rohani Nadir said the department, through its forensic unit, was investigating what caused the fire that destroyed four warehouses at the industrial park on Thursday (Oct 10).

“The incident is still being investigated. We have about 14 days to investigate the whole incident,” she added.

Siti Rohani said this at a meeting on Sunday (Oct 13) after presenting grants to fire and rescue volunteer teams at the state Fire and Rescue Department.

She added that the investigation focused more on what caused the major fire that hit the warehouses and the estimated losses.

Earlier, two male Bangladeshi nationals who suffered serious burnt injuries following the major fire passed away.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said one of the victims was in his 30s while the other was in his 40s.

“One of the victims died at about 10pm on Friday (Oct 11) while the second victim passed away at about 2.15pm on Saturday (Oct 12).

“The third victim is still seeking treatment at the hospital,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 12) night.

He said postmortem on the two victims found that their cause of death was severe burn injury.

On Thursday (Oct 10), it was reported that three foreigners were in critical condition after a major fire hit four warehouses at the SiLC industrial park here.
