A man in his 30s has been taken into custody in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, for engaging in mischief and making criminal threats in the area, according to Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

The Perak police chief noted that the man was apprehended during a special operation on Nov 29 following a police report filed three days prior. The report was in response to an incident where two cars belonging to a victim were set on fire.

Comm Mohd Yusri stated that investigations revealed the man has a history of 11 previous offenses, including nine related to drugs.

“We also confiscated a car, threatening notices, a mobile phone and clothing believed to have been worn during the crime.

“The man also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said at a press conference at the state contingent headquarters on Friday (Dec 1).

Comm Mohd Yusri added that the man was affiliated with a loan shark syndicate based in Singapore.

“He is paid to carry out criminal threats and mischief by setting fires or splashing paint on properties against individuals who owe money or their family members,” he continued, stating that the man would receive RM1,000 for each task.

“He has also been linked to 13 other cases of mischief in Perak, causing damages ranging from RM500,000 to RM700,000,” he stated.

“He is also implicated in various cases in Johor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Pahang.

“He is currently being held at the Ipoh police headquarters until Dec 3,” he concluded.

Comm Mohd Yusri urged the public to refrain from borrowing money from loan sharks.

“Those who fail to repay their debts may put their family members at risk of receiving threats or facing acts of mischief,” he added.

“We encourage the public to continue reporting any illegal activities to the police at 05-245 1222 or the emergency hotline to ensure the safety of the public and property,” he further stated.
