In Ipoh, a nanny accused of fatally abusing a six-month-old baby has been charged with murder.
Tan Wooi Cheng, aged 52, appeared before Magistrate S Punitha on Thursday (July 20) and was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
When the charge was read in Mandarin, Tan nodded to indicate her understanding.
There was no plea recorded at this time.

Tan allegedly committed the crime at Taman Tawas Indah, Chemor between midnight on July 9 and 11am on July 12.
On July 14, the police received a call from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, reporting that the baby had died two days after falling into a coma.
Initially, Tan was arrested on July 13 for suspicion of child neglect or abuse, but the charges have been upgraded to murder.

Tan’s lawyer, J. Matthews, stated that his client has a serious thyroid condition and hopes she will receive proper medical attention.
Mention of the case has been scheduled for October 5 by Magistrate Punitha.
Nurul Hidayu Zakaria, the deputy public prosecutor, handled the prosecution.
