The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) recently carried out a special operation called Ops Stardust Kuala Lumpur to gather and update information on business owners through face-to-face interviews. This operation involved 80 officers from the Intelligence and Profiling Department of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, and Melaka.
IRB stated that all information obtained during the census will be carefully reviewed and audited before any action is taken against individuals, companies, or corporations found to be evading tax reporting and payment. This includes both local residents and foreigners. The board also mentioned that penalties and criminal prosecutions may be imposed for non-compliance with tax laws.
The aim of this initiative is to combat tax evasion and strengthen the country’s tax system. IRB’s CEO, Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, emphasized the importance of a comprehensive compliance strategy that includes detection, audit, investigation, and tax collection to address current challenges effectively.
During the operation, Abu Tariq, along with Deputy CEO Datuk Hisham Rusli and the leadership team, visited the site near Bukit Bintang to oversee the process. They specifically focused on businesses such as food, beverage, and fruit stalls. By conducting such activities, IRB hopes to enhance tax compliance and ensure the sustainability of tax revenues in the country.
This proactive approach by IRB demonstrates its commitment to upholding tax regulations and holding tax evaders accountable. By implementing measures to address non-compliance and evasion, the board aims to maintain a fair and transparent tax system for all businesses and individuals.
IRB’s efforts to crack down on tax evasion are part of a larger strategy to ensure that all taxpayers fulfill their obligations to contribute to the nation’s development. The board’s focus on investigating and addressing non-compliance reflects its dedication to promoting tax transparency and integrity.
Through operations like Ops Stardust Kuala Lumpur, IRB seeks to send a clear message to tax evaders that evading tax payments will not be tolerated. The board is committed to enforcing tax laws and ensuring that all taxpayers report their income accurately and pay their taxes promptly.
By conducting face-to-face interviews and thorough audits, IRB aims to gather accurate information on business owners and prevent tax fraud. This approach is part of the board’s ongoing efforts to enhance tax compliance and deter individuals and businesses from engaging in illegal tax practices.
In conclusion, IRB’s recent census operation underscores the importance of maintaining tax compliance and combatting tax evasion. Through effective enforcement measures and comprehensive compliance strategies, the board aims to uphold tax integrity and promote a fair tax system for all taxpayers.
