According to sources, Isham Jalil (pic) has been dismissed from the Umno supreme council with immediate effect. This decision came following Isham’s recent criticisms against Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, as reported by a supreme council member who was present at the meeting. The meeting, which took place at the World Trade Centre KL, began at 8pm and concluded at 10.10pm, after which leaders were observed leaving the headquarters.
The Star attempted to reach out to Isham for his comments on the matter. Speculation about Isham being removed as an Umno supreme council member had surfaced earlier, and this action appears to be a result of his public criticism.
Isham had raised concerns about Umno’s cooperation with Pakatan and DAP, prompting Ahmad Zahid to suggest that Isham present his views at the Umno supreme council meeting on Wednesday (Dec 6) night. Isham, however, made it clear that he would not attend the meeting as a form of protest against Umno’s decision to collaborate with certain parties.
At the meeting, several notable figures were in attendance, including Umno vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, and Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah. The gathering took place in the aftermath of Umno’s significant defeat in the Kemaman by-election on December 2, where Perikatan Nasional emerged victorious against Barisan Nasional with a substantial vote margin of 37,220.
