KUALA LUMPUR: The Islamic law perspective on GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) will be presented to the Conference of Rulers, convening for two days starting Wednesday (Oct 23).

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) presented a study during the recent National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) muzakarah committee meeting, which weighed legal opinions related to GISB.

“MKI chairman Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak has approved the decision.

“To date, six states have issued rulings concerning GISB,” he said when replying to a question from Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun) in Parliament on Wednesday.

Abd Ghani asked if the government’s steps to abolish the “Aurad Muhamadiyah” teachings, which is still practised despite being declared deviant in 1994.

Zulkifli said that based on Jakim’s observations, these deviant teachings are still followed due to several factors, including the secretive nature of the practice and the strong influence of former Al-Arqam leader Ashaari Muhammad among his followers.

He said Jakim would continue to focus on strengthening the faith and beliefs of Muslims, including GISB members, through knowledge cultivation, education and comprehensive faith reinforcement programmes in collaboration with state Islamic religious councils and state Islamic departments.

“The government is taking drastic measure to eliminate these teachings through coordinated operations with federal and state agencies, including the police as part of Ops Global, involving different legal frameworks,” he said. – Bernama
