The recent demand by Israel for the World Health Organisation (WHO) to remove its supplies from a medical warehouse in southern Gaza within 24 hours is seen by Wisma Putra as inhumane and a violation of international law.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry expressed its concern, stating that threatening a United Nations (UN) body, especially one that provides crucial life-saving aid to victims of the conflict, is unacceptable and indefensible.
The ministry emphasized that this irresponsible action not only violates the human rights of the Palestinians, including their right to health and right to life, but also jeopardizes efforts towards achieving a peaceful solution to the ongoing crisis.
WHO had announced on Monday that it had been forced to move supplies from its medical warehouse in southern Gaza within 24 hours due to a warning from the Israeli military that ground operations there would make it inaccessible.
Wisma Putra stated that Malaysia condemns the continued atrocities by the Israel Occupation Forces (IOF) in Gaza after the end of a week-long humanitarian pause on Dec 1.
The ministry also pointed out the failure of the international community to take action against certain perpetrators of criminality who continue to enjoy immunity under the pretext of self-defense, which it sees as a sign of double standards.
It further asserted that this failure corrodes trust in the multilateral system and long-held principles of international law.
Wisma Putra urged the international community to come together and demand the perpetrators to halt the attacks, support the mandates of international organisations, and uphold the sanctity of humanity.
The ministry also stated that progress towards realizing the vision of an independent and sovereign Palestine state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its Capital, can only be achieved if the international community acts resolutely.
According to the news article, at least 16,248 Palestinians have been killed and more than 43,616 others injured in relentless Israeli air and ground attacks on the enclave since Oct 7. – Bernama
