KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammad Wafi Zabidi, a 34-year-old cook at Istana Negara, shared his gratitude towards Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, saying he would always remember her kindness. Wafi and his wife, Nurul Ain Md Yusof, were able to experience parenthood after five years of marriage, thanks to Tunku Azizah’s help.

The couple’s daughter, Aurora Sofea Humaira, now three years old, was conceived through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment granted by Tunku Azizah. Wafi recounted the Queen’s kindness towards them, saying that she often inquired about married employees at the palace who hadn’t conceived and eventually suggested he undergo the IVF treatment, despite its high cost. He expressed immense gratitude for the gift.

IVF, known to be an expensive treatment, was a dream come true for Wafi and his wife, who had been trying to have children. Tunku Azizah, the founder of the Tunku Azizah Fertility Foundation (TAFF), selected 19 other Istana Negara employees for the IVF procedure, aiming to assist them in starting a family.

Wafi, who had worked at Istana Negara for 11 years, said the IVF treatment, completed in 2019, led to the birth of their daughter in August 2020. He expressed deep appreciation, acknowledging the emotional and physical difficulties associated with the treatment, especially for women. He was also touched by the Queen’s concern for his wife’s pregnancy and her orders for him not to work outstation to ensure her well-being.

Another employee, Mohd Hasry Abd Rahim, a 34-year-old palace herald, expressed his gratitude towards Tunku Azizah for assisting him during a tough time when his family home was submerged in floods. He highlighted the Queen’s compassionate nature and her support of all Istana Negara employees, acknowledging her as a source of help and comfort. Tunku Azizah will soon return to Pahang to accompany Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, as he concludes his reign on Jan 30, 2024.
