The Islamic Development Department Malaysia (Jakim) stated on Friday (Sept 1) that the proposal for a 10-year validity period for the Islamic Pre-Marriage Course certificate, starting from October 1, 2023, is still under consideration. The purpose behind this proposal is to ensure that the course content remains relevant and effective for prospective married couples.
Jakim also mentioned that discussions regarding this proposal have taken place with the state Islamic religious departments. However, it is important to note that this proposal is still in the early stages and is being deliberated for potential implementation.
In an earlier report, on August 30, a portal revealed that the Director of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail, had stated that the current validity period for the course certificate, based on the Islamic Pre-Marriage Course Integrated Module (MBKPI), is a lifetime. However, the proposed changes seek to limit the validity period to no more than 10 years. This change is specifically relevant for individuals applying for a Jawi Marriage License. – Bernama
