Barriers previously placed on Jalan Jambu Gajus in Kuala Lumpur to facilitate pipe installation works have been removed, allowing motorists to turn into the road from Jalan Kepong. Project manager Kamarudzaman Sakom stated that an additional 400m of new pipes must be laid from Brem Mall to Jalan Jambu Melaka 3. He estimated that the remaining portion of Jalan Kepong would take approximately 40 days to complete. In order to alleviate congestion, all barriers have been removed and work will only be conducted from 9pm to 5am daily. Originally slated for completion on June 29, 2023, the project has been extended to May 19, 2024, with monthly permit renewals beyond the original completion date. Air Selangor and developers Mega Legacy (M) Sdn Bhd, Lake City KL North Sdn Bhd, and Uttara Land Sdn Bhd are jointly conducting the project, which is part of a 12km integrated water supply reserve project.
The ongoing pipe installation works along Jalan Kepong have caused significant traffic congestion, leading many individuals to register complaints with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). Wayne Ng, a 28-year-old employee at a machinery and hardware shop near the closed junction in Jalan Jambu Gajus, reported a decrease in customers due to the closure. He explained that Jalan Jambu Gajus serves as a main entry point to Jinjang Selatan, and the closure has forced motorists to seek alternative routes.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng disclosed that the project has resulted in traffic buildup from the Jalan Ipoh roundabout all the way to the Jalan Jambu Gajus traffic lights. Both residents and business owners, as well as DBKL, have lodged numerous complaints over the past two weeks. Lim added that DBKL has issued warnings to the main contractors regarding the traffic disruptions, and repeated warnings may lead to their blacklisting.
