Residents and business owners in Johor Baru town were taken by surprise when a sudden power outage occurred in several areas since 4pm on Saturday (Oct 21).
Roland Lim, a 70-year-old business owner, expressed shock at the unexpected loss of electricity and mentioned that no prior notice was given by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).
He stated, “The entire row of shops along Jalan Meldrum, including mine, is affected by the power outage. This is the first time we have experienced such an outage without any prior notification. I hope TNB can promptly resolve this matter as it is causing significant inconvenience.”
Upon contact, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, the Johor Works, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman, confirmed the power outage. He also added that electricity is expected to be restored around 11pm.
“Affected areas include Wisma MBF, Hong Leong Finance Caltex, Jalan Tar, Merlin Tower, and Sungai Segget. TNB is currently working on resolving the issue,” he said, noting that drilling activities in the area might have caused the outage.
