BINTULU: Iskandar Turkee has promised to maintain the confidence placed in him by the voters following his victory in the Jepak state by-election. Iskandar, who is 54 years old and represents the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) party, also expressed his gratitude for his win. In an interview at the vote-tallying center in Dewan Suarah Bintulu, he stated, “I will provide excellent service and honor the trust bestowed upon me by all the voters in the Jepak state constituency.”
GPS effectively maintained its hold on the Jepak state seat when Iskandar was declared the winner of the by-election. Iskandar, a former director of the Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA), secured victory with a staggering majority of 8,784 votes over his opponents. His main competitors were Stevenson Joseph Sumbang, representing the Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) party, and Chieng Lea Phing, who represented the Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (Aspirasi) party.
Iskandar received a total of 9,638 votes, while Stevenson garnered 854 votes and Chieng secured 431 votes, according to the official reports. – Bernama
