An analyst from Bank Negara has testified in the High Court that Jho Low opened a Swiss bank account for his company Good Star Ltd, three months before receiving US$700 million of 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) funds in 2009. Adam Ariff Mohd Roslan, 34, stated that Jho Low opened the bank account on June 11, 2009, and the company received the funds on Sept 30, 2009.
The 47th prosecution witness revealed that 1MDB instructed Deutsche Malaysia to make the US$700 million transfer, based on banking records. He provided this information during the trial involving former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s alleged misappropriation of RM2.3 billion of 1MDB funds.
However, Najib’s counsel Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee objected to the admissibility of the document that the prosecution relied upon to prove Good Star’s account opening.
Earlier, Adam Ariff presented his findings after analyzing 343 banking documents and records, tracing the RM2.28 billion that entered Najib’s private bank accounts in 19 transactions from 2011 to 2014 back to funds raised and belonging to 1MDB. His July 2023 money trail report concluded that the statements and analysis were made in good faith and based on reliable and accurate information at the time of the report.
In the report, Adam Ariff expressed confidence that no material facts were misleading or withheld from him.
Former Prime Minister Najib, 70, is facing charges of using his position to obtain bribes amounting to RM2.3 billion belonging to 1MDB, as well as 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
The trial before Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah will continue on Sept 18. – Bernama
