MELAKA: A 53-year-old unemployed man has entered a plea of not guilty at the Sessions Court in Melaka to the charge of using a steering wheel lock to assault his neighbor, causing severe injuries to the victim.

The plea of Ahmad Baba was recorded on Wednesday (Aug 30) before Sessions judge Mohd Sabri Ismail. In this case, the accused allegedly used a 54cm-long steering wheel lock to strike Zulhelmi Md Yusof, causing him significant harm. The incident took place at a residence on Jalan Kesidang 2/17, Lorong Pandan in the Melaka Tengah district at approximately 6.30pm on Aug 22.

Ahmad has been charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt. If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, a fine, or whipping.

DPP Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim has urged the court to deny bail to Ahmad, given that the victim is a neighbor residing next to the accused. Consequently, bail was denied to Ahmad, who did not have legal representation. The next mention of the case has been scheduled for Oct 24.
