The feast hosted by China President Xi Jinping in conjunction with the launching of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China was attended by several dignitaries, including Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul. Johari was accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Noraini Mohd, and other leaders present at the event included Syria President Bashar al-Assad, King of Cambodia King Norodom Sihamoni, Kuwait Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, South Korea Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão.
Expressing his appreciation in an Instagram post, Johari praised the organisers for their meticulous preparation and stated that his attendance at the event was a significant honor for the Malaysian Parliament.
“As the sole legislative representative (from Malaysia) to the feast, I feel honored to have met President Xi and leaders from other countries in talks to foster closer regional cooperation,” Johari wrote.
He added, “This is the best opportunity to develop the socially inclusive and sustainable Asian Century. Malaysia and China remain committed to creating opportunities for multilateral cooperation.”
