KUALA PILAH: As campaigning begins for the state polls, both the Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional candidates contesting the Johol seat in Negri Sembilan have identified ecotourism and development as their main focuses.

Saiful Yazan Sulaiman, the incumbent assemblyman from Barisan Nasional, expressed his intention to promote ecotourism if given the people’s mandate. He highlighted the potential for ecotourism development in Johol due to its many clean rivers. “We have already started by creating campsites, and the response from tourists has been positive,” he added. He proposed focusing on rivers in Inas and Air Mawang, Johol, for development and involvement of locals.

In addition to ecotourism, Saiful Yazan envisioned building a mini-estate for specific produce in the area. “Johol was originally a padi area, and there are many empty pieces of land here. With some irrigation works, we can proceed with this mini-estate,” he explained. He also emphasized his track record as an assemblyman and the additional facilities and recreational activities he has provided for the people.

Kamarudin Md Tahir, the Perikatan Nasional candidate, highlighted the potential of developing the Batu Maloi caves into a successful ecotourism location. He also mentioned Lubuk Bunga in Inas, which has rivers, waterfalls, and natural greenery. Kamarudin emphasized the importance of ecotourism for Johol, as it will not only attract tourists but also benefit the local community.

Furthermore, Kamarudin proposed upgrading Johol into a district, stating that it would lead to more developments and job opportunities for the locals. “The issue in Johol now is there are no job opportunities. We need to create them,” he emphasized.
