PASIR GUDANG: The Johor government has allocated over RM63mil to upgrade 20 Rumah Sewa Kerajaan (RSK) and people’s housing projects (PPR) this year, according to Johor state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.
Mohd Jafni said the upgrades include roof maintenance, painting, sewage treatment plants and other amenities, as per the announcement made by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi during last year’s budget announcement.
“The allocation of RM63.5mil will be distributed to 13 PPR’s and seven RKS in the state,” said Mohd Jafni, emphasizing that the aid is necessary due to the age of some of these housing projects.
He also expressed hope that despite the limited budget from the state and Federal Government, the aid would help alleviate the residents’ daily lives, as per his statement after officiating the Community Empowerment Programme and Community Farm Project at RSK Taman Cendana.
Using RSK Taman Cendana as an example, Mohd Jafni mentioned that the housing project alone would use RM9.9mil for repainting the building and carrying out roof and sewage treatment maintenance.
“This housing project consists of 1,500 units in 20 blocks and has been in operation since 1988, making it 36 years old,” he added.
