Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) will take action against heavy vehicle owners who violate the rules on the usage of protocol roads by issuing compound notices. Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman stated that there has been an increase in damage and dirt on the protocol roads, particularly those within the city centre. The damage and dirt are primarily caused by heavy vehicles that transport materials for construction sites such as sand and cement.
The council plans to conduct joint operations with agencies like the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Public Works Department (JKR) to address the issue. While the council acknowledges the ongoing development projects around the city centre, it emphasizes the importance of all parties involved taking responsibility and adhering to existing regulations. This includes maintaining the cleanliness of the roads and complying with the designated usage time for these roads.
MBJB has officially designated several roads within the city centre as protocol roads. These roads serve as main routes within the local authority and connect to other roads in the area. The gazetting of these roads was carried out at the state level in accordance with Schedule 9 Para 6 of the Federal Constitution. The enforcement of the protocol roads is implemented through the establishment of limitations and restrictions on the types of vehicles allowed to use them.
Mohd Noorazam stated that it is crucial for these roads to always be well-maintained in terms of their infrastructure, cleanliness, and landscaping. To address related complaints, residents of Johor Baru can submit their concerns through MBJB SISPAA (mbjb.spab.gov.my), contact the main hotline at 07-219 8000 or the toll-free number 1-300-88-0416, or use WhatsApp at 019-778 8212.
