JOHOR BARU: The Johor health and environment committee chairman reminds the public to be more mindful of food safety.
Ling Tian Soon said it is a good practice to observe, smell, and taste the food to ensure it has not gone off before consuming it.
“The public is also advised to choose eateries with good hygiene and serve clean food.
“Certificate on food cleanliness from local councils and the Health Ministry such as MeSTI (Makanan Selamat Tanggungjawab Industri) or ‘Bersih, Selamat dan Sihat’ (BeSS) could be used as an indicator to help consumers make decisions,” he said in a statement here on Thursday (June 13).
He added that using aprons, face masks, and shoes when handling food could also reflect good hygiene practices at an eatery.
“The public could also channel any questions they may have to any district health offices or the official Facebook page of the state health department or its food safety and quality division,” he said.
Ling also expressed his condolences towards the family members of the two people who were killed from suspected food poisoning in Gombak, Selangor.
