Authorities in Johor Baru have detained a mother following accusations of fatally slashing her infant son’s throat at their residence in Pasir Gudang.

The Johor police chief, Comm M. Kumar, disclosed that a report was filed regarding the one-year-old toddler’s murder at approximately 1.30pm on Saturday (March 16).

“A 32-year-old woman, identified as the victim’s mother, was apprehended for further interrogation. A knife, believed to be the weapon used by the suspect in the attack, was confiscated by the police at the crime scene.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the prime suspect forwarded an image of the deceased infant, drenched in blood around his neck, to her husband via the messaging app WhatsApp,” he relayed during a press conference on Sunday (March 17).

Separately, Comm Kumar unveiled that a 61-year-old male was discovered deceased in Taman Rinting near Masai, with multiple lacerations on his body at approximately 10.50am on Saturday.

“Five men, aged between 35 and 48, have been apprehended at different locations in the vicinity to aid in the inquiry.

“Further items belonging to the victim were seized by the authorities, and swab samples were collected at the site to assist in the investigation,” he conveyed, noting that both the victim and the suspects have previous criminal records.

Comm Kumar further revealed that it took less than 24 hours for the police to solve the two homicide cases through the apprehension of the suspects, both of which have been categorized under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He mentioned that applications for the custody of the suspects will be made, while the two bodies have been transferred to Sultan Ismail Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
