JOHOR BARU: The police have arrested 40 people and issued over 500 summonses in a special two-day statewide operation, says Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar.
He said a total of 37 of the suspects arrested on Sunday (June 16) and Monday (June 17) were driving under the influence of alcohol.
“We have arrested a total of 40 people, including three women. The suspects are aged between 18 and 60.
“Of them, 37 were arrested for driving while intoxicated, one for driving recklessly, and two for obstructing civil servants from discharging their duties,” he said in a statement.
He added that three of those arrested are foreigners, while the rest are locals.
Comm Kumar said the suspects are being investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act for driving under the influence of alcohol, Section 42(1) of the same act for driving dangerously, and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing civil servants from discharging their duties.
“A total of 1,204 people and 1,056 vehicles were inspected during the operation. We have also issued 532 summonses for various offences,” he said.
