ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 27-year-old man was apprehended in connection with the theft of a cargo compartment from a lorry trailer at the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters (SILC) in Iskandar Puteri.
According to Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Rahmat Ariffin, the suspect stole the trailer on September 18 and altered the color and chassis of the compartment.
“The suspect, along with a rented trailer from Kedah, was apprehended at Taman Nusa Sentral at 2 pm on Monday (October 2),” he said during a press conference on Tuesday (October 3).
An investigation revealed that the suspect worked as a lorry attendant and stole the trailer for personal use,” he added.
The suspect rented the lorry for RM7,000 and only managed to utilize the stolen trailer for two weeks.
To avoid detection by authorities, the suspect also changed the trailer’s color from blue to red.
ACP Rahmat also mentioned that the compartment was primarily utilized for transporting dry store items and that the suspect had no prior criminal record.
“We are also probing the possibility of the suspect having an accomplice,” he stated, noting that the case falls under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code, which deals with vehicle theft.
