After the completion of the legal process, the Johor police have announced that they will be disposing of 22 years worth of confiscated drugs, worth RM5.4mil. The Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat (pic) mentioned that the drugs will be disposed of using an environmentally-friendly method at the Kualiti Alam Waste Management Centre in Bukit Pelanduk, Negri Sembilan.
Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat stated, “This year, we have disposed of 322.1kg of drugs and 1,562 litres of liquid drugs worth RM5.4mil, involving 3,214 investigation papers from 2000 to 2022, of which all have completed their court trials.” He also mentioned that years ago, drugs were disposed of in the ocean, however, they have now found a more environmentally friendly way of disposal.
During a press conference at the Johor Police Headquarters, Comm Kamarul Zaman expressed that the disposed drugs comprise heroin (19.4kg), cannabis (28.3kg), ketamine (15kg), methamphetamine (8kg), methylenedioxy methamphetamine (10kg), ketum (236.4kg), and other various types of drugs weighing 4.4kg. In addition, he also mentioned that the police destroyed 301.5kg of drugs and 642 litres of liquid drugs worth RM6.1mil last year.
Comm Kamarul Zaman also highlighted the fact that the disposal process will continue to be conducted until all parties involved in drug cases are charged in court. He also mentioned that a team of police will be escorting the drugs to the disposal area to ensure that the items are disposed of correctly.
Regarding the success of the Johor Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) from January until Nov 20 this year, Comm Kamarul Zaman mentioned that they have confiscated 4.6 tonnes of drugs worth RM33.7mil. They have also arrested 15,167 people and confiscated RM13.1mil worth of personal belongings.
