In Johor Baru, an eatery has been instructed to close for a two-week period due to unsatisfactory hygiene conditions. The Johor Health Department director, Dr Mohtar Pungut@Ahmad, disclosed that an inspection of the eatery in a hypermarket in Bandar Seri Alam took place last Thursday, February 22.
During the inspection, health officials discovered that the premises were unclean and did not meet satisfactory hygiene standards. Dr Mohtar mentioned that a significant number of the workers were unable to provide evidence that they had completed a proper food-handling course, leading to the neglect of cleanliness.
As a result, the Health department issued an order for the eatery to cease operations for 14 days to allow the business owner to promptly clean the premises. Furthermore, Dr Mohtar emphasized that all employees at the eatery must attend a certified food-handling course to maintain hygiene standards.
“It is crucial that all food operators comply with the regulations outlined in the Food Act 1983. Failure to do so may result in the closure of their premises and a financial penalty,” Dr Mohtar added in a statement on Wednesday, February 28.
Following the closure notice dated February 22 to March 7, which was prominently displayed at the outlet, a photo of the notice quickly spread on social media platforms. This incident serves as a reminder to all food operators of the importance of adhering to hygiene regulations to prevent closures and penalties.
