PASIR GUDANG: The Johor Environment Department is closely monitoring the air quality in the vicinity of the Tanjung Langsat landfill after a significant fire broke out. The director of the department, Dr. Mohd Famey Yusoff, stated that they are working in collaboration with the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) to monitor the area.
Dr. Mohd Famey Yusoff went on to mention that the Fire and Rescue Department, along with MBPG, is currently working to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further. He also assured the public that the Environment Department will provide updates on the situation periodically.
The operations commander of the Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue station, Mohd Yusri Atan, reported that at 12.46pm on Friday, they dispatched nine firemen, together with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and a utility vehicle, to the location. It was revealed that approximately 2.83 hectares of the 5.2-hectare landfill site had already been consumed by the fire.
Mohd Yusri further explained the challenges they faced during the operation. They had to stretch a fire hose over a distance of 213 meters to reach a nearby fire hydrant for water supply to fight the blaze.
As of now, the Johor Environment Department, MBPG, and the Fire and Rescue Department are pooling their resources to gain control over the fire and minimize its impact on the surrounding environment. The authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and adhere to their instructions for safety purposes.
