In line with the state government’s Maju Johor 2030 agenda, Johor is prepared to support electric vehicle (EV) companies in establishing additional charging stations within the state, according to Lee Ting Han, the Johor Investment, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman.
Lee expressed his satisfaction that Tesla selected Johor as its second location in Malaysia for a supercharging station, after the first one in Kuala Lumpur.
Tesla’s decision was partially influenced by data that indicated Johor had the second highest number of Tesla users in the country, following the capital city. Lee also anticipates that such facilities will attract more car owners from Singapore to visit Johor.
Lee made these remarks during the launch of Johor’s inaugural Tesla supercharging station at Sunway Big Box in Iskandar Puteri on Thursday (Oct 5), where Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi was in attendance and had the opportunity to test drive one of the Tesla models.
