The Johor state government, led by Datuk Zahari Sarip, is planning to introduce a floating price for rice sold at its Bazar Rakyat Agro Johor (BRAJ) program. The government also intends to increase the frequency of the BRAJ program as a temporary solution to address the current issues surrounding daily essentials. The specific details of the plan will be announced soon by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

According to Zahari, there will be a meeting between the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and the Mentri Besar on September 27 to discuss the state’s current situation regarding daily necessities. One proposed solution is to expand the BRAJ initiative and include rice as one of the items sold at a discounted price in the program.

Previously, the BRAJ program offered discounts on four items: chicken, eggs, cooking oil, and fish. However, Zahari mentioned that for the next BRAJ, they hope to include rice as well. He made these remarks during the Bright Kids and Parenting Skills program inauguration ceremony held at Dewan Taman Pulai Indah on September 24.

The BRAJ program has been conducted in 125 locations across Johor, involving 3,041 entrepreneurs. As of September this year, a total of RM7.3 million worth of sales has been recorded. Through this initiative, 1.2 metric tonnes of chicken, fish, eggs, cooking oil, vegetables, fruits, and meat have been sold.
