Immigration officials in Johor Baru have captured 47 foreign nationals at a manufacturing facility in Kluang for working without proper work permits.
The director of Johor Immigration, Baharuddin Tahir (pic), stated that 23 individuals were from India, 21 from Bangladesh, two from Sri Lanka, and one from Pakistan.
These individuals were apprehended during a special operation at 10.30am on Thursday, Dec 14, and according to Baharuddin, a total of 135 foreigners were screened during the raid.
Baharuddin mentioned that the department had received information that the factory had hired foreign workers without the required documentation.
The detainees, whose ages ranged from 22 to 56, were detained during a special operation called Ops Mahir, which targeted foreigners utilizing workforce recalibration (RTK) 2.0 slips to work illegally in Malaysia.
Baharuddin mentioned that they were taken in for various offenses including lacking proper travel documents, overstaying, misuse of social visit passes, and contravening the terms of their visit passes.
He advised all employers to register their undocumented workers under RTK 2.0 before it expires on Dec 31.
