The number of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases reported in Johor this year is 313, according to Ling Tian Soon, the state health and unity committee chairman. Out of this total, 124 cases are classified as new infections. The district with the highest number of new cases is Johor Baru with 68, followed by Kluang with 13, and Batu Pahat with 11. Other districts with reported cases include Segamat (8), Kota Tinggi (7), Muar and Kulai (6 each), Tangkak and Pontian (2 each), and Mersing (1).
Ling stated that out of the new HIV cases, 117 or 94.3% of them involve males. Additionally, six cases involve individuals aged between 13 and 19. In terms of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) cases, there have been 164 reported in Johor this year, compared to 147 cases in the same period last year.
