Johor State Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi will inform the Election Commission (EC) about the vacancy in the Simpang Jeram state seat on Monday (July 23), according to a brief WhatsApp message by him to Bernama.
Simpang Jeram state assemblyman Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub passed away in Alor Setar on Sunday (July 22) night after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage. The body of the domestic trade and cost of living minister was laid to rest at the Jalan Sulong Muslim cemetery in Serkat at 12.05pm on Monday.
Salahuddin, aged 61, served two terms as the elected representative for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats. Currently, Johor has a total of 56 state seats, with Barisan Nasional holding 40 of them, Pakatan Harapan having 12 (including Salahuddin’s seat), Perikatan Nasional having three, and Muda having one seat, as reported by Bernama.
