In Johor, the construction of 287 new telecommunication towers as part of the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) is expected to bring 100% cellular Internet access coverage to the state, according to Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching.
Teo mentioned that out of the total, 182 towers have been constructed as of the fourth quarter of 2023, with the remaining towers currently under construction and expected to be fully operational by 2025.
During a recent visit to Jementah, Segamat, Teo inspected a telecommunication tower in Kampung Krishna, highlighting that it was completed in early 2024 by Celcom Bhd.
The tower began operation for CelcomDigi users on Feb 28, Maxis users on March 7, and U Mobile users on March 8.
Teo stated that with the completion of this tower, approximately 100 residents in Kampung Krishna and nearby areas can now access high-speed Internet services.
Accompanying Teo on the visit were Segamat MP Yuneswaran Ramaraj, Jementah assemblyman Ng Kor Sim, and Johor Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) director Mohamad Rizal Ahmad.
Teo also mentioned that a total of 4,701 towers have been upgraded to 4G/LTE, with 16 towers still in the process of being upgraded and expected to be operational by 2025. – Bernama
