PETALING JAYA: Malaysian students who are recipients of the Public Service Department (JPA) scholarship will now have the option to defer their return to the country for up to three years, starting from Feb 15.
According to a Facebook post made by the JPA on Feb 7, this decision was made to allow students to seek employment and gain necessary skills while still abroad. However, it is important to note that students must apply for the deferment as it is not automatically granted.
“This option is only available for students who are in their final year of pursuing their first degree overseas. The maximum period for working is limited to three years,” the post said.
“The number of years spent in the workforce during the deferment period will be taken into account as part of the bond of service.”
“Students are still required to continue making monthly repayments of their scholarship,” added the JPA.
It was also mentioned that any adjustments to the repayment terms will be considered once the deferment period comes to an end.
