PETALING JAYA: The Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP) is currently investigating a reported hacking incident on the Misi Rakyat website.
According to a statement released on July 14, the JPDP confirmed that a hacker had uploaded details of the alleged incident onto the website BreachForum and the messaging platform Telegram on July 3 and 4 respectively.
The JPDP further revealed that it had received an incident report from Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCert) under CyberSecurity Malaysia on July 4.
“On the same day, JPDP contacted Bangsa Bertauhid Sdn Bhd, the company behind Misi Rakyat, to verify the incident and obtain relevant data samples,” stated the JPDP.
The company has been instructed to conduct an internal investigation and submit a completed Data Breach Notification (DBN) form.
The JPDP initiated its investigation into the incident after receiving the DBN form from the company on July 10. Furthermore, the founder of the website was summoned by the JPDP to provide a statement on July 13.
In collaboration with CSM (CyberSecurity Malaysia), the JPDP is conducting additional investigations to determine if any violations of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709) have occurred.
Misi Rakyat, a fundraising website, aims to channel its funds towards those in need. In a local media interview, the website’s founder emphasized this goal. Additionally, the website recently launched its own food delivery app called Misi.
