The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is intensifying its efforts to combat overloading of commercial vehicles following a fatal accident in Putrajaya on Wednesday (Sept 20) that claimed the lives of two motorcyclists. JPJ deputy director general (planning/operations), Aedy Fadly Ramli, stated that they have instructed all state directors to carry out special operations targeting commercial vehicles. These operations will commence nationwide next week, with each state director taking charge of enforcement efforts in their respective state. Aedy Fadly added that the JPJ Headquarters will closely monitor these operations and compile a report for the Transport Minister.
In addition, the JPJ will collaborate with other agencies including the police, Environment Department, and the National Anti Drug Agency for these operations.
The fatal accident occurred on Wednesday in Jalan Persiaran Utara, near Putrajaya. Two male motorcyclists aged 25 and 39 were killed, and several others sustained injuries after a lorry collided with multiple vehicles. Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz revealed that the accident took place at approximately 10:14 am when the victims and 11 others stopped their vehicles to make way for a traffic police convoy assigned to Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) escort duty.
Further investigations showed that six injured victims were taken to Hospital Serdang and Hospital Putrajaya for treatment.
