A flood mitigation project will be initiated on a specific section of Jalan Reko in Kajang, Selangor next year. Bangi MP, Syahredzan Johan, announced that the 3.5km stretch near the Kajang 2 KTM station will be upgraded as a long-term solution to address the flood hotspot in the area. The project, estimated to cost RM92mil, will be funded by the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR).
According to Johan, the project involves increasing the road level and drainage system capacity, and it was approved in 2021. However, the implementation has been delayed due to the process of acquiring private land along the stretch. Currently, Selangor JKR is in the final stages of acquiring the required land, which involves 35 private lots.
Johan mentioned that the works will commence in the first quarter of next year, and the primary factors contributing to flooding in the area include inadequate drainage capacity and debris caught in rubbish traps, which hinder water flow and lead to overflow.
To address the short-term issue, Johan has requested the authorities to frequently clear rubbish from the traps and monitor the condition of the drainage system to minimize flooding incidents.
