Independent candidate Datuk Razalif Mohamad Zain is making an extravagant entrance on the campaign trail for the Kebun Bunga seat, arriving in a vibrant green Lamborghini Urus sports utility vehicle (SUV). He is also accompanied by four additional luxury vehicles – a Lamborghini Huracan, a Range Rover, and two Bentleys, all owned by Razalif himself and driven by his friends.

Razalif, 33, a businessman, is making sure to catch the attention of constituents during his campaign. Over the weekend, he had a lion dance troupe, a 100-motorcycle convoy, and a 15-car motorcade with around 200 supporters accompanying him during campaigning in Rifle Range and Hong Seng Estate.

When contacted, Razalif stated, “I just want to make a grand entrance whenever I go campaigning to catch the constituents’ attention as all I want to do is to help them. If elected, I will eradicate poverty, improve the lives of senior citizens, and buy a piece of land in Tanjung Bungah belonging to a developer so that the present residents can continue to stay there instead of being evicted.”

Razalif emphasized that he has no ulterior motive in running for the state election, stating that he has no intention of holding any major posts or being in the state executive committee. He wants to give back to the people as life has been good to him. Despite regularly traveling between Penang and Kuala Lumpur for business, he considers himself a Penangite, having spent his early life there.

Meanwhile, Teh Yee Cheu, the Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s candidate for Air Putih, has a vision of promoting a hiking trail that connects the temples and churches located along the lower part of Penang Hill. Teh wants to upgrade the trail with rest stations and turn it into a heritage tourist attraction. He believes that this trail will not only provide exercise opportunities for senior residents but also serve as a space for socializing.

Teh, who was previously a Tanjong Bunga assemblyman under the DAP, shared his experience in upgrading trails and planting trees in the area. He believes that the Parti Rakyat Malaysia, founded in 1955, has a historical background in championing the rights of the people and countering the influence of the privileged government class.

Teh is competing for the Air Putih seat against Lim Guan Eng of the DAP and Kong Cheng Ann of Gerakan, representing Perikatan. Lim, a former finance minister and Penang chief minister, is expected to return for a fourth term in the seat. Teh previously contested the Air Putih seat in 2004 but lost to Barisan’s Lye Siew Weng. He won the Tanjong Bunga seat for two terms before leaving DAP in 2018.
