ALOR SETAR: Police have dismantled five migrant smuggling syndicates operating in Kedah and arrested 12 local and Myanmar agents during Ops Pintas, which took place from August 15 to September 7. State police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh announced that 47 Myanmar migrants, ranging in age from 15 to 50 years old, were also detained in the operation. The migrants had been brought into the country using both sea and land routes in the Langkawi and Kubang Pasu districts. Fisol added that although the syndicates were not connected, they shared a similar mode of operation which involved smuggling migrants using sea and land routes. He also noted that the syndicates had connections and collaborated with agents in Yangon, Myanmar.
