SHAH ALAM: Prof Dr Suffian Yusoff, a PAS delegate, has urged leaders to adopt the winning formula used in Kedah’s state election in August to attract non-Malay citizens. He suggested that leaders consider applying the strategy of Kedah Perikatan Nasional in the next general election, following the PAS-led state government’s significant victory on August 12. Suffian emphasized that the composition of Kedah closely resembles the diverse population of the country, making Kedah Perikatan’s formula applicable to other states in their quest to win the upcoming general election. He stressed that achieving this goal would require contribution, cooperation, and sacrifice from all party members. Suffian made these remarks during the debate on the president’s policy speech at the party’s 69th Muktamar, held at the IDCC Centre on Saturday, October 21.

Suffian further emphasized the importance of PAS intensifying its efforts to attract votes from non-Malay citizens, despite the positive progress exhibited by Perikatan Nasional in the recent state elections and the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15). He highlighted the significant surge in popularity of Kedah Perikatan, led by PAS, during the state elections compared to GE15. Kedah Perikatan successfully secured 33 out of 36 seats in Kedah, toppling leaders from Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional. Suffian also praised Kedah Perikatan for including a state assemblyman from Gerakan in the composition of the state government, which, according to him, truly reflects the spirit of Perikatan.

In his policy speech on October 20, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang acknowledged the need for the party to put more effort into garnering support from non-Malay citizens. The party understands the importance of expanding its appeal beyond the Malay community in order to achieve its goals.

The call made by Prof Dr Suffian Yusoff during the party’s 69th Muktamar reflects the party’s recognition of the successful strategy implemented by Kedah Perikatan Nasional, led by PAS, during the state election. PAS aims to replicate this formula in other states during the next general election, with a focus on attracting non-Malay voters. The party acknowledges the increased popularity it gained from non-Malay citizens in Kedah and intends to build on this success. PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang also acknowledges the need for the party to increase its efforts in gaining support from non-Malay citizens, thereby indicating a commitment to inclusivity and broad-based appeal.
