The PAS-led Kelantan state government has pledged to address water issues as one of its main agendas. This commitment was stated during the launch of the Kelantan Perikatan Nasional’s state election manifesto, which also covers socio-economic and agricultural productivity development. The manifesto, titled “Kelantan Maju Rakyat Sejahtera,” outlines 18 plans and 96 programmes.
Caretaker Kelantan Mentri Besar, Datuk Ahmad Yakob (pic), highlighted that 98% of the previous manifesto from the 14th General Election had been completed. The remaining commitments, along with new pledges, will be carried forward into the new manifesto.
Speaking at a press conference after launching the manifesto, he said, “We drafted this manifesto in a realistic manner, based on what we are capable of and according to the budget that we have. We are calling it a programme instead of a manifesto because we actually plan to make them all happen.”
Among the priorities of Kelantan Perikatan is rebranding Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd and increasing water storage through the Takungan Air Pinggiran Sungai (TAPS) project. The pact also plans to provide assistance for first-time pipe installation to benefit the B40 group.
In terms of socio-economic development, the state government aims to develop new towns to generate job opportunities and boost the state’s economy. The manifesto also addresses women’s development, education, family, youth, and environmental development programmes.
The state elections in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan are set to take place on August 12, with early polling on August 8.
