KOTA BARU: Datuk Ahmad Yakob, the caretaker Kelantan mentri besar, acknowledges the rise of digitally-savvy young voters who voted for Perikatan Nasional (PN) in last year’s 15th General Election (GE15). He believes that their understanding of their duty to the country will lead them to vote wisely in the upcoming Aug 12 state election and contribute to the future success of Perikatan.

During the launch of its state election manifesto in Kelantan on Monday (July 31), Ahmad Yakob expressed confidence in the appeal of their manifesto, which offers support programs for the less privileged, including the poor, women, disabled individuals, and others in need.

Ahmad Yakob remarked that the youth have demonstrated a mastery of the digital world and were highly engaged during GE15. He also emphasized that Malaysia, particularly Kelantan where Shariah law is practiced, is a hidden gem that upholds Islamic law. He cited their contribution to Islamic banking during the administration of the late Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat as evidence of this.

Highlighting the lack of assistance from the Federal Government, Ahmad Yakob voiced his disappointment that the state has not been granted permission to build its own port and increase funds from its oil reserves. He called on the federal government to take responsibility for constructing a new port, given the strategic location of Kelantan between Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. Additionally, he highlighted the state’s rich mineral resources, such as gold, zinc, feldspar, and iron, which can be processed to benefit the state’s economy.

The Kelantan Perikatan manifesto, themed “Kelantan Maju Rakyat Sejahtera,” includes 18 plans and 96 programs focused on socio-economic and agricultural productivity development. It also addresses women’s development, education, family, youth, and environmental development.
