KUALA LUMPUR; The machinery election director for the Kemaman by-election has been appointed and it is Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, the Terengganu Umno state liaison committee chairman, according to Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, the Umno secretary-general. The decision to appoint Ahmad Said was agreed upon during the Umno supreme council’s meeting on Friday (Oct 20).
Responding to queries regarding the selection of a candidate for the by-election, Asyraf Wajdi stated that the announcement would be made at a later date. He clarified that the appointment of the director was the primary focus of the meeting, with no further discussions on other matters.
In a previous ruling by the Terengganu Election Court on September 26, the result of the Kemaman parliamentary seat in the 15th general election was nullified due to allegations of voter inducement during the campaign period. PAS’ Che Alias Hamid was the original victor in that election.
